Choosing a gift is rarely comfortable. Too safe and it says nothing; too grand and it says too much. ROKAEN pairs coffee and tea grown in the red soils of Vietnam with fruit dried in a partner atelier in Kyoto, composed into one small set — not another anonymous box, but one the recipient opens and asks about. You are the one who found it.

The difference between another assortment and a box the recipient asks you about is usually not what is inside, but whether there is something to tell.
The outside of the coffee fruit
Take a tonne of green beans and roughly a tonne of skin and pulp is left over. For a long time it was piled at the edge of the field or by the river, turning the water acid as it broke down and releasing methane. Cascara is that outside, dried.
Only the ripe ones, the same day
To make cascara, only fully ripe cherries are picked by hand, washed and separated the same day; anything underripe muddies the cup. It is more work, and the same tree now yields what used to be thrown away.
Morning and evening
The drip bag is for the first cup of the day. Cascara has less caffeine than coffee, so it suits the hour when you want one more cup. One box carries two times of day.
